Modern Foreign Language (French) Curriculum at De Bohun

Intent

At De Bohun, we provide children from Year 2 to Year 6 with a high quality Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) curriculum which allows children to explore and develop a love for other languages and an appreciation of other cultures. Our children are taught weekly French lessons that are carefully sequenced progressively, so that children know more, remember more and understand more.

Implementation

French is taught in a whole-class setting with adaptations made for ease of access and objectives are achievable for all. Our lessons are designed to enthuse and ignite a love of languages through the use of games, songs, stories, and role play. There is a focus on speaking and listening in all year groups which gradually develops skills in reading and writing throughout each academic year.

Impact

French is assessed termly where the children complete a series of assessment questions summarising the content covered. French is taught progressively so that by the end of Year 6, the children are ready to further their knowledge and understanding at secondary level.
